Have you ever read Mary Shelly’s ‘Frankenstein’? I was suppose to in grade 10, but I didn’t. I watched the movie instead. Unfortunately it was Young Frankenstein, and I didn’t do so well in that class. When you answer most of the questions with ‘Gene Wilder’ and ‘Teri Garr’, you’re bound not to pass.

If you haven’t read it, I’m sure you know the basic story. Doctor makes monster out of many different parts and brings that monster to life.

That monster is your brand. No it’s not ugly, stupid or played by Peter Boyle. Your brand is a mix of many different elements;  logo, communication style, colour, font, experience, signage, website, business card. The list goes on.

So once that brand has been developed and you have all the tools to hit the market, it’s your responsibility to bring that monster to life.

Here are 3 tips from the “Brand Doctors” at kitestring that can help electrify your approach;

1. Meet the monster:

Create an experience for your clients or customers. The moment a client meets you, talks to you on the phone or receives your first email is the time to start that experience. What is your company all about? Do you sell ice cream? Why not end an email with, “Keeping it cool, Jeff.” If your ice creme company is fun loving and playful, it’s o.k. to come off  that way. Don’t be afraid to show off your company’s true colours. If you own a law firm, something so playful might not  work. But it is important to take the brand developed for you and integrate it in all communications.

2. Not everyone loves your monster:

Target your market and say the right things to the right people. You can stand up on a park bench and yell to everyone around you that you’re selling the most delicious hot dogs ever, but if your in the middle of the ‘Vegan and Friends Outdoor Annual Fair’, no amount of screaming is going to get a hot dog sold. When you find the right people who want your services, make sure your messaging is clear and concise. What do they need? What are their wants? Tell them what they need to hear.

3. Let the monster out!

Get out there and spread the word! You have a new brand, you need to share it with the world. You know what I’m going to say, don’t you? Network. Network isn’t a dirty word, I swear. Like buying property, networking is all about location, location, location. Find a network that best suits you and your brand. If you sell baby clothes, hit up a Mom group. And when you hit up that group, develop relationships. Networking isn’t a game of ‘Pass out the business cards as fast as I can then hit the road because So You Think You Can Dance is on.’ Talk to people. Find out what they do. And tell your story. Because a really good story is the product of a solid brand.

These are just a few things you can do. The world is full of villages that you can let your “monster” loose in. Make sure it’s the right village with the right villagers and make sure those villages know exactly what you’re all about.
