why the elf not

It’s time for the un-holiday HYPE hang out! Check out all the deets below and we’ll see you there! Email meg@kitestring.ca and let her know you’re coming.

What’s the HYPE?
HYPE (Hamilton Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs) is for networking group for young Hamilton-based professionals.

When?
Wednesday, November 24th 2010 after your nine to five grind, and the night is always casual.

Where?
Our favourite indie seafood bar on Augusta Street (The Ship, 23 Augusta Street, Hamilton)

Why?
As per usual, HYPE is all about saying NO to stuffy business card hand offs and feather plumage puffing in networking situations. When you show your smiling face at this pre-Holiday “Why The Elf Not?!” party, you’re saying YES to cups of cheer and meeting like minded people in your pond.

Hurray! I love this! My favourite morning show, that I watch religiously, has made a smart move towards a more modern, youthful, exciting look!

Apparently the visual identity and jingle are a throwback, a retro 70s/80s homage to its over half of a century of history.

Maybe I’m excited because I feel like they’re making a visual effort to appeal to me, maybe I’m excited because a prominent Hamilton-based (I know, I know, Channel Zero, but still!) media outlet is unafraid to show off some colour and mention Facebook pages as places to gather more info. Regardless, I’m excited!

The one thing I would suggest, is more Leslie Stewart. She makes even the gloomiest of days tolerable. Maybe give her the full screen during her segment? Anyways…

Good on ya, CHCHTV!

I never put a caption beside my highschool graduation photo in our yearbook, but I should have put, “Don’t dream it. Be it.”

I think Spec reporter Gary Smith said it best: ” Well, didn’t some subscribers get their knickers in a knot at the notion Theatre Aquarius was presenting rude and raucous The Rocky Horror Show.”

Now let me tell you, after I saw the show on a Saturday night, my knickers were all sorts of things… but isn’t nice! I think I rather liked it! I won’t tell anyone if you like it too.

The Rocky Horror Show at Theatre Aquarius felt like being 13 again (gasp! a time warp?!), and everyone in Hamilton is also in my parent’s basement enjoying what I thought was my guilty pleasure, transylvanian transvestites in their skivvies whilst rockin’ out in sequins and feathers. Even crazier, both grandma’s and teenagers alike enjoyed the debauchery!

But as the raunchy musical implores, if you have the smallest inkling to be a part of the fun, you should give yourself over to pleasure.

Want to experience myself and lots of others re-visit their youthful extravagances in costumes at the Rocky Horror Show MidNight Show?!! I knew you would!

Get your tickets for the May 28th or 29th MidNight Show by contacting Theatre Aquarius today!

As a small branding studio that knows the power of green in numbers, kitestring knows their new tagline and creative theme for CAA Autogreen will encourage Ontarians to begin making small eco-smart choices.

The campaign was  seen for the first time at the Green Living Show which began this past Friday, April 23rdth at the Direct Energy Centre where the team documented their visit on twitter @kitestring.

The campaign was inspired by an article in the latest issue of SEED Magazine that pointed to new social scientific research on the subject of climate change indicating that “to the extent people (feel) they can’t solve a problem, they tend to ignore it” (SEED Magazine, 2010).

The campaign’s message and new CAA Autogreen tagline created by kitestring, “Your Small Choice is the Next Big Thing”, speaks to Ontarians about the potential of a collective impact from a single act of green.  With a focus on eco-friendly driving habits combined with cleaner service and product options provided through CAA Autogreen, the campaign aims to prove that each everyday, eco-smart choice adds up.

Ok ok, La Boheme is sung in Italian. Regardless, Opera Hamilton deserves a big “bravo” from the entire city of Hamilton. La Boheme is a classic tale we’ve all lived to a certain degree, full of high school emotions and “I love you! / I hate you!” quarrels, campy make out scenes and death by consumption. (Like I said, to a certain degree). For someone who doesn’t get to the Opera very often, Opera Hamilton’s production is perfect to cut your teeth on. And when it comes to “La Boheme”, loosely translated the bohemian life, lots of young Hamiltonians might be surprised as to how little things have changed since the Paris in the 1830′s in terms of life and love in the city as a struggling artist. There is only one more performance on Saturday April 24th, and you can find all the information about tickets, time and venue at Opera Hamilton’s website.

Meet Swatch 383. It’s kitestring green.
We like to think it speaks volumes about our brand’s personality.
Then we put our ears up to it and took a listen, and realized it was trying to tell us something.

We’ve been getting ready for this for a long time and now we’re ready to take it on. Swatch 383 wants kitestring to go on a mission to try to become as green as possible in 2010.

How fitting it is that Earth Day is the kick off to the Swatch 383 campaign.

kitestring invites you to watch us as we’re taking eco-friendly trip to the Green Living Show tomorrow (Friday, April 23rd) beginning our day at 9:30 on the GO Train. Ask us a question or read our updates on twitter (@kitestring), send us messages and view our photos on our blog and on twitter throughout the day (Follow all of the conversation even here #swatch383).

We know there is a lot a small creative studio can do to make a big impact. Check back in the Swatch 383 section to see how although it ain’t always easy, it’s worth it trying to be green.

You’re lucky, he’s lucky, I’m lucky, we’re all lucky!

Damnit, Hamilton! Theatre Aquarius does the Rocky Horror Show from April 21 – May 30, 2010!!!!!
Rocky Horror is my all time favourite counter-cultural-sexy-time-spooky-rock-star-musical!

I can’t wait to get all dolled up as my favourite raunchy character and make some noise in the dark theatre!

The theatre is going to have party packs filled with all the usual suspects for Rocky Horror debauchery…. well, at least the ones that won’t rot on the theatre floor.

Who is with me?!

Stay tuned, I’ll blog about my experience getting lost in time, and lost in space… and meaning.
